Liverpool's Premier League title hopes suffered a major setback as they were beaten 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the goals for the home side, who moved out of the relegation zone with the victory.
Liverpool made six changes to the team that started the Champions League semi-final first leg against Villarreal in midweek, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Virgil van Dijk among those recalled.
However, it was Everton who started the brighter of the two sides and they took the lead in the 30th minute when Gray fired home from inside the box. Liverpool struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half, with Salah and Mane both well-marshalled by the Everton defense.
The visitors improved after the break but they were unable to find a way past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal. Calvert-Lewin made sure of the points for the home side in the 83rd minute when he headed home from close range. The result means that Liverpool are now six points behind Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with just six games remaining.
