Timofeeva bests Juvan, makes semis on WTA debut

Russian qualifier Oksana Timofeeva stunned fourth seed Kaja Juvan to reach the Budapest Grand Prix semi-finals on her WTA Tour debut.

The 21-year-old, ranked 343rd in the world, defeated Juvan 6-2 7-6 (7-5).

Timofeeva will face Anna Blinkova in the last four after the Russian 10th seed beat Egypt’s Mayar Sherif.

In the other semi-final, fifth seed Anna Bondar of Hungary will play qualifier Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia.
