Champions League: Real Madrid beat Chelsea 2-0 in first leg of quarter-finals
Rodrygo scores twice as Real take control of tie
Chelsea face uphill task in second leg after being reduced to 10 men
Real Madrid took a giant step towards the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Rodrygo was the hero for the hosts, scoring twice in the first half to give Real a comfortable lead to take to Stamford Bridge for the second leg on April 12.
Chelsea's task was made even more difficult when they were reduced to 10 men after Thiago Silva was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 62nd minute.
The Blues had started the game brightly and had the better of the early chances, but Real gradually took control of the game and deserved their victory.
The result leaves Chelsea with a mountain to climb in the second leg, but they will take heart from the fact that they have already overcome a 3-1 deficit against Real in this season's competition.
